A Knowing Lie

Joe says:

"Just how many times in one day can one Newspaper KNOWING LIE to their Customers?"

WTF?? What is a knowing lie? I've never heard of such.

For the record, I have been told by a pretty reliable source that the contract for the new Station 16 was for 9.8 million dollars and it was completed for about 9.5 million dollars. I do not know where The Daily Times got their figure. But, before blaming Barrie Tilghman, perhaps it would have been in order to ask her what number she has.

I'd start with the Times before going to Tilghman. Could be as simple as a typo. Goodness knows that Joe makes three or four hundred a day.

Here's another POSSIBLE explanation. I'm not endorsing it, but its possible.

If the final cost of the new station was $9.5 million, and Station 16 was appraised at $800k, then if there is another $700k of "stuff" that has been replaced and could be sold, then its plausible that the paper could say that the station cost $8 million.

But, this only works after Station 16 and all of the residual "stuff" actually gets sold off at Joe's "auction".

I think what Mahmoud Bin Sheetzhead Albero doesn't comprehend is that there are hard construction costs, soft construction costs, and project costs.

Hard costs would be materials costs, labor costs, etc.

Soft costs would engineering, permitting, inspections, etc.

Finally, project costs would be the stuff like the new furniture, telecom systems, etc.

It's entirely possible that the total hard and soft costs were $8 million, and the rest of the costs -- turnout gear racks, weight room, furniture, telecom (internet & voice), etc. all add up to 9.x or 10 or whatever.

Depending on what number you are looking at, all those numbers could be correct.

And please remember this is a triple purpose facility. It is an admistration office complex and heritage center, a training center (a far better one then tyhe city has ever had),a fire station with live-in capabilities for the personel and a garage to house equipment that now sits outside in the elements.

Joey is well aquainted with hard and soft costs.

He must know?

Hadley,

I have travelled to the UK three times, Turkey once, Canada three times, and China five times.

All but one were business trips. I stayed in Turkey for 9 weeks, including in Bebek -- right below Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Ephesus, Cappadocia, and some town on the Aegean I can't remember. I stood in an old bunker on the Black Sea, and swam in the Marmara just above Gallipoli.

Does that qualify me as international expert?

On firehouse costs, another point:

Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Company just build a brand new station. it is a three bay station, with no live-in facilities, a semi-large kitchen, no catering facilities, and a cistern.

Construction: essentially a frakking pole barn.

total cost: just north of $1.7 million.

A headquarters facility with that many bays, a heritage museum, et al does not seem out of the ballpark for $9+ million dollars.

Of course, i don't know much. Obviously a man who beats women is much more of an expert than I.

caughtit,

Then when would we stop? If he is holding his breath, he can't speak.

How do you enjoy your Turkey on Thanksgiving Day?

How close will the Presidential Election be in Electoral Votes?

If Joe gets advertisers, would you take your business else where because of it?

Who are you voting for in the 1st District? Andy Harris or Frank Kratovil

Has Joe gone to far with the leaked info on the deceased woman found in the Industrial Park?

Is Joe Stalking or In Love with Gary?

Should we back off the verbal attacks on family members unless they are involved with the posting?
