Teachers Then and Now

Tomcat spurred this one.

How many remember when they were in school and how respect and discipline was given and received?  Now compare it to today.  What went wrong or do you think it's improved?

My answer is when I went to school you came to school with respect taught from home and the teachers gained more respect as I learned from them.  They didn't demand it.  Discipline was feared because after the principal was done with you, you had to face both of your parents. Luckily I steered clear of it but knew the consequences if I did screw up.  I don't think my generation turned out to bad.  We had standardized tests, but they were not given the level of priority, that they have today.  I believe if they compared our scores from then to today they would see we did much better.  Teachers taught because they loved seeing kids learn and not for the money because it wasn't much for what they did.  They all made impacts on our lives.

Today the kids have no respect for anything on the most part and demand it for themselves.  Discipline now compared to then is a joke.  No wonder our jails are filling up with younger and younger repeat offenders.  Teachers are forced to prepare for the "test" rather then real life.  They get little support from administration because they are busy worrying about the numbers rather than the classrooms.  The old saying," spare the rod and spoil the child," is showing itself to be true.  Home life for today's kids is drastically different from back in the day.  Parents are less involved and busy trying to please their kids, rather then just loving them and helping them improve themselves.  Many kids they say are raised by the TV and electronics.  Today's TV and electronic games desensitizes children from many things.  Today's new teachers are more worried about the money and moving to administrative roles then the act of actually teaching a student and making an impact on their lives.  Some how we need to return to the old values and standards to save this and future generations.

Jihad's teachers must have sucked worse than others.
HOW DO YOU SPELL ADDICTIVE?
What a dumbass, did it twice.

From Joeys blog.
Question of the Day, Fri 5/16
Have you ever quit something additive?
Smoking? Alcohol? Caffeine/Coffee/Sodas? Salt? Chocolate/Junk Food?
How did you do it? Do you miss it? How many times did you relapse before
coming to grips with your addition?

I know when i was in school if i didnt act right or respect my teahers i got my ass busted. If i couldnt do my home work or keep my grades up, i was grounded. & not the kind where i was sent to my room for an evening with no phone or TV. Im talking cut off. For months, until i could get my act together. No phone, no friends, no boyfriend, no cell phone, no staying out on weekends, NOTHING.

The problem today is that children arent being held accountable for their actions. They can blame it on tommy, timmy, or jo jo & there is no consequence. Its "oh now honey sweetie baby mommy/daddy knows you know better, why didnt you listen? Well you will listen tomorrow right? Thats my big baby, give me huggies" BITE MY ASS! I have seen sooooo many parents handle the situation this way & then a few years down the road their kids are in juvie hall, failing out of high school, constantly in trouble or all of the above.

I know back in the day, if i tried to blame why i did something a friend or partner in crime my parents always gave me the same example "If jane jumped off a bridge would you?" "If jane ate dog shit would you?" Kids have minds of their own to make their own decisions. They know when they are doing something they shouldnt be... & for those parent out there its those things that they look at you right before they do it or as theyre doing it to see what you will say. The whole time thinking to themselves "How long can i do this before they say something.."

If parents would pull their heads out of their rear ends long enough to see the sun they would realize that their kids arent perfect. & if you dont teach your kids resposibility for their actions when they are young they arent going to think there are any. They are going to think they can do what they want when they want, cause they wont get into any trouble. Parents are to worried about being their childrens friends & not being the adult. Im quick to tell all of my boys, im not here to be your friend, im here to be your parent, you dont have to like me but you will respect me & do as youre told or there will be consequenses. Thats the other problem, parents threaten with you are in sooo much trouble young man or young lady you wait til we get home. & what happens? not a damn thing. & the kids know it. So why should they behave? Its not like mommy & daddy have the balls to back up what theyve said they are gonna do.

& thats when it must really suck to be a teacher. How can you do your job when you spend half your day trying to calm kids down? You cant yell too loud cause thats not only disruptful but then you will prolly be facing some kind of law suit for harrassment of a student or some off the wall shit. God knows you better not touch them... & yeah go ahead, waste your breath talking to parents who are just as ignorant as their kids (see above 'direct reflection') & believe that thier kids have done no wrong. So then there the teacher is stuck. With nothing he or she really can do.

The discipline & actions of todays students all falls back on their parents. & i hate to say it, but alot are doing a piss poor job.
